How to Determine Garage Sale Pricing
Determining the right garage sale pricing can be the most difficult part of hosting a yard sale. Of course you want to make a profit but you must also have reasonable garage sale pricing in order to keep customers.
The main objective in deciphering the prices for each item is to make it a bargain. People attend garage sales because they are looking for bargains and if you price items as they are in a store then you scare away customers. It is recommended by seasoned garage sale hosts to remember that an item is only worth what customers will pay for it.
Flexibility with garage sale pricing is the key. You must be willing to go down on the price if an item is not selling. Customers want a price much cheaper than what they will get in at any store. What an item is worth to you may be different than what it is worth to the consumer, therefore you will have to down size many of your original prices.
Keep in mind when you are pricing garage sale items that the point is to sell it, so prices must be a great bargain. If you are selling new or un-used items a common rule to go by is to discount 25 to 35 percent of the store price. This is only a starting price and it will most likely be lowered as your garage sale proceeds.
