Garage Door Insulation Offers Extra Protection

Garage door insulation is an important inclusion for your garage, especially if your garage is exposed to the sun for long periods each day and if you work in your garage or have a garage apartment.  There are several methods and materials used for garage door insulation.

Fiberglass garage doors use to be a very widely used method of insulation, but new methods have been developed because fiberglass tends to be heavy.  Most garage door insulation is now done with a foam lining of polyurethane or polystyrene inside the steel panels.  Polyurethane is more effective.
The foam lining ranges anywhere from one-half inch to two inches in thickness.  Garage door insulation is judged on an R scale, depending on the thickness.  A larger numbered R scaled means a greater thickness of insulation.  Having a well insulated garage door can cut down on the extreme temperatures effecting the comfort level in your garage.

Energy efficient garage door insulation not only helps regulate the heating and cooling, it also protects the door, beams and hardware from being dried out and broken due to being too dry.
